I activated the Åland Islands for the first time on the QO-100 satellite February 5th-7th 2021, as OG0D in grid square JP90xc.
There were 438 log entries made from 50 countries over the ~48 hour operation.
Equipment used:
- 80cm dish
- BamaTech POTY feed (2.4GHz up and 10G down to LNB)
- 7m cables
- Icom 705 to Kuhne upconverter
- SDR# for RX on laptop
- Using the Icom RS-BA1 software on the laptop to control the 705
- Razor gaming headset for microphone and headphones
Leaving from home -20 C to catch the ferry to Aland Islands.
Leaving Turku to Aland Islands - ferry had some ice to bust through.
Dish and feed from Aland operating position.
Night time operation mode as OG0D.
Remco took a snapshot of the pile-up!
I like to use this satellite tracking software: https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9wzdncrdndf7
On the return trip, the ferry first came from Sweden so I had to make sure I had the special A coming from Aland so not to have to get a Covid-19 test.
